Taxes and assessment of tax risks

Seminar goal

The seminar aims to improve the qualification of credit analysts in the financial analysis of groups of connected entities operating in the small business segment, i.e. to improve their skills in identifying and assessing tax risks that may arise from lending to such groups.

Seminar description

In the course of financial analysis of groups of connected entities, credit analysts have to analyse tax risks, in addition to other risks, since tax risks have an effect on the credit risk that arises when lending to such groups and/or their constituent entities. The EBRD Russia Small Business Fund therefore presents a seminar devoted to these issues.
The seminar covers the following principal aspects:

  • Taxes payable by MSEs, including detailed analysis of VAT
  • Typical models for groups of connected entities associated with high or low tax risk; adverse effects of tax optimisation and associated credit risk
  • Finding evidence of tax optimisation in accounting statements of businesses
  • Group consolidation of connected entities, practical aspects

At the seminar, participants will review practical examples, analyse case studies based on real business models and create credit résumés.

Seminar target audience

  • Experienced MSE credit experts (with working experience above 1.5 years and, as a mandatory requirement, experience in drafting financial statements)
  • Heads of small business lending departments
  • Credit risk analysts and members of MSE credit committees
